President & CEO
Mark Garland joined 4R Systems in 2012 and brings over 18 years of experience in the supply chain industry. His career has focused on supply chain technologies, particularly within the Retail industry. He has joined 4R Systems to drive strategic sales, client delivery and marketing/industry analyst liaison within the market place. In 2020, Mark Garland was promoted from SVP of Sales, Marketing, and Solutions to President & CEO. Prior to joining 4R Systems, he was a Principal Consultant with Capgemini US within the North America Supply Chain Technologies practice. He was recently responsible for a large scale supply chain transformation effort at a Fortune 50 company.
Previously, Mr. Garland was Senior Solution Architect and Senior Manager at Accenture where he had global responsibilities for selling, designing and mobilizing Supply Chain BPO operations focusing on the Retail industry. After graduating from the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK with a BSc in Business Management, Mr. Garland completed a management graduate program at British Airways, UK. After leaving British Airways he joined Manugistics, UK where he was responsible for the implementation of Supply Chain Planning solutions. He then transferred to Manugistics US and subsequently JDA in 2006 where he continued a 10-year career in the supply chain technologies industry.
SVP Product Management
Marsha Shapiro is responsible for the strategy and design of the 4R Systems Product Suite. She has over 20 years of retail software design and implementation experience managing the entire product lifecycle using an agile framework. Marsha has held executive positions with leading software providers implementing merchandising and marketing applications at retailers and wholesalers such as Ahold, Walmart, Target, Associated Warehouse Group, Family Dollar and Belk. Marsha’s deep retail knowledge stems from having led process improvement efforts and implementing technology as a certified Six Sigma Black Belt for The Home Depot. Early in Marsha’s career, she was an IT management consultant with Ernst & Young and authored the Pocket Idiot’s Guide to Six Sigma. Marsha received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Virginia with a dual concentration in Information Systems and Marketing.
Senior Vice President, Analytics
Stefano Alberti joined 4R Systems in 2002 and brings expertise in forecasting, statistical data analysis, algorithm development and price optimization. Prior to joining 4R Systems, he was a Lead Analyst with Manugistics, where he led the algorithmic development of one of Manugistics pricing optimization products from conceptual prototype phase to successful installation. While at Manugistics, Mr. Alberti also consulted and designed Revenue Management systems for travel and transportation industry clients. Mr. Alberti holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rome, Italy, an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M, and an M.S. ABD in Operations Research from Cornell University.
Patrick T. Somers
Vice President, Delivery
Patrick Somers is responsible for all Client Services and Solutions delivery. Over the last five years at 4R Systems, Patrick has led and been intimately involved in all new client services implementations.
Patrick applies 25 years of experience in progressively challenging positions to the needs and goals of 4R Systems’ clients, leveraging a strong mix of skills, capabilities and expertise in retail, technology and service delivery. During his career he gained experience with a diverse group of retailers, ranging from young start-up ventures to mature, established retail chains with a national presence. As an integral member of several executive management teams, Patrick has actively participated in strategic business planning by recommending and implementing technology tools to assist companies in meeting their business objectives.
During his career Patrick has made significant contributions to the overall business plans and goals of several retailers and service provider organizations – heading up IT and client-facing roles in organizations such as Boscov’s Department Stores, Zany Brainy, Silo, Ames Department Stores, Business First and Vertrue. His broad-based experience with these organizations ranged from implementing technology, to establishing client services and solutions for retailers, to prototyping new supply chain solutions and systems, to designing and developing software solutions for retailers in the areas of physical supply chain, merchandising and inventory management, financial, and omni-channel selling systems.
Patrick has been featured in numerous retail trade magazines as a contributor on emerging technology topics. He holds a B.S. in computer science from St. Peter’s College.
Vice President, Development
Steve joined 4R in 2014 and is responsible for all software development initiatives within the company. While leading the development team, he ensures the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the existing 4R platform and new 4R software products and services. He coordinates activities with the Client Services, Production, Analytics, and Sales teams.
Steve brings over 30 years experience in development of software products and services. He has held several leadership positions and has expertise in the computer, cable TV and eCommerce industries. Prior to 4R, Steve served as Principle Software Engineer and Tech Lead at Motorola. There he developed video on demand, network DVR and bandwidth management systems for cable providers.
At GSI Commerce Steve was Senior Manager of the engineering team responsible for development and enhancement of its eCommerce platform.
Steve has coauthored two IBM patents and was an original member of the ISO C++ Standards committee. He holds a B.S.E and M.S.E in Computer Science and Engineering from University of Pennsylvania.
Vice President, Production IT and Security
Joe joined 4R Systems in 2015. Joe is responsible for IT strategic planning, implementation and maintenance of all technology, software and vendor/partner relationships and support. He is the owner of 4R’s production system architecture, design and performance and is responsible for implementing all IT security policies, managing risk and ensuring compliance with regulatory and client contracts.
Joe brings over 19 years of IT/Production experience ranging across several industries including mortgage, pharmaceuticals and healthcare. He brings knowledge of transitioning to cloud platforms that support Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solutions. Prior to 4R, he held technology leadership positions with Acrometis, UnitedHealthGroup and Merck&Co. Currently, Joe works closely with our Development, Delivery and Production Management teams while also supporting Sales/Solutions efforts. Joe holds his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA.
Kristen joined 4R in 2015. Kristen is responsible for managing finance and accounting, internal controls, contracts, facilities and office services. She also interfaces with Human Resource functions related to budgets, financial impact, HR systems and HR policies. Kristen brings a background of knowledge from previous experience working in Finance roles at early growth software companies to large healthcare companies. Kristen holds her Bachelors of Science in Accounting from University of Phoenix.
